Corelog - 8x16 Sci-Fi Terminal Monospace Pixel Font
A downloadable asset pack
Corelog is an 8×16 monospace pixel font for spacecraft diagnostics, communication logs, hacking terminals and text-mode roguelikes. Squared counters, single-pixel strokes and a slashed zero keep console text crisp. Every character advances exactly 8 pixels, including accents, box drawing, blocks and the 16 inline HUD icons.
What you get
- 745 mapped glyphs: printable ASCII, complete Latin-1 Supplement and Latin Extended-A, Romanian Ș ș Ț ț, ƒ, monotonic Greek, Cyrillic U+0400–045F with Ґ ґ and №, punctuation, currencies, arrows, mathematics and shapes.
- All 128 box-drawing characters and 32 block elements, including light, heavy, double, dashed and diagonal lines.
- 16 HUD icons on U+E000–E00F: battery full, half and low; signal; warning; thermometer; oxygen; power; gear; shield; rocket; ringed planet; satellite dish; crosshair; heart-rate pulse; data chip. Names and code points are in
mapping.json. - TTF and WOFF, plus BMFont PNG / FNT / XML atlases at 1x, 2x and 4x, Unicode grid PNG sheets and
glyphs.json. - Engine exports: Godot 4 FontFile resources, GameMaker strips and GML, Construct 3 Sprite Font sheets and spacing data, and JSON atlases. These files have not been tested inside the engines.
- CP437 tiles: all 256 screen-glyph slots in a 16×16 layout, with slot zero blank. Four PNGs: white on transparent and white on black, each at 1x (128×256) and 2x (256×512), plus an index map and notes.
- Specimen, README with metrics and import notes, and LICENSE. The full ZIP contains 68 files.
Specs
- One Regular weight. 8×16 cell; capitals and digits 10 px tall, x-height 7 px, 3 px descenders. Every advance is 8 px; no kerning.
- Pixel-perfect at 16, 32, 48, 64 px (integer multiples of 16) with anti-aliasing off and nearest-neighbour scaling.
- The TTF was rendered with FreeType at 16, 32 and 64 px with three hinting modes and compared pixel by pixel with the source bitmaps: 6,705 checks, 0 mismatches. Windows DirectWrite and macOS CoreText were not tested.
- Box drawing and block characters were tiled in random grids by a script: 7,680 cells, every joint lines up.
- The engine files and CP437 tiles were read back from the final ZIP and matched the font pixel for pixel.
Not included / limits
- No CJK, Arabic, Hebrew, polytonic Greek or emoji. One weight, no kerning or ligatures.
- Rings (Å å Ů ů) are simplified to two rows; cedilla, ogonek and comma-below marks sit 1 px below the letter. Give stacked accented text a little extra line spacing.
- GameMaker's proportional auto-spacing changes the fixed advances; use the included draw helper (see
Engines/README.txt). - Not tested inside Godot, GameMaker, Construct 3, libtcod, REXPaint or BearLibTerminal; the README has setup pointers.
Free sample
The free sample TTF includes A–Z, 0–9, space, .,:!?-/%()[], light box drawing ─│┌┐└┘├┤┬┴┼, full battery U+E000 and warning U+E004. Try the cell spacing and integer pixel sizes in your project before buying. Lowercase and the complete repertoire are in the full version.
License
Use and modify it in commercial and non-commercial projects, including games, apps, videos, printed matter, logos and merchandise. No credit is required. Do not resell or redistribute the font files on their own or in another font, asset pack, template or library. See LICENSE.txt for the full terms.
How it was made
Each glyph and icon is a pixel bitmap on the 8×16 grid, and accented letters are built from base letters and marks. A script builds the TTF, BMFont atlases, engine files and CP437 sheets from those same bitmaps, so all formats match. The page images are drawn with the font itself; the console, roguelike and comms screens are simple mockups, not a real game. Captions use Lanternbit.

This is the single most well-constructed font library I've ever seen! Well done!
Thank you so much! 🙌 That honestly made my day. If you ever use Corelog (or any of the others) in a project, I'd love to see what you make with it! 👾✨
